Penneo/e-Boks Denmark Integration

Send document-signing requests directly through e-Boks
The e-Boks Denmark integration allows you to send document-signing requests directly to recipients through e-Boks. This article explains how the integration works, what you need to use it, and the current limitations.

What is the e-Boks Denmark integration?

The integration allows you to send signing requests directly through e-Boks Denmark from Penneo.
You can use the integration from the new Case File Creation UI or through the API.
When creating a signing request, you can identify the recipient using either their:

• CPR number
• CVR number

Penneo checks whether the provided identifier is connected to an active e-Boks mailbox before sending the notification.

What does the recipient receive?

The e-Boks notification is sent with Penneo as the sender and uses Penneo's standard message design and domain.
Documents are not attached directly to the e-Boks message. Instead, the message contains a link that takes the recipient to the relevant Penneo signing page or archive.
This approach avoids unnecessary data-size costs and helps protect confidential documents.

Can I use e-Boks for any type of message?

No. The current integration is designed specifically for document-signing requests and related case completion communication.
It cannot be used as a general-purpose messaging channel to send other types of content to e-Boks.

Can I use the integration without a CPR or CVR number?

No. A CPR or CVR number is required to send the request through the current integration.
Penneo also checks whether the provided CPR or CVR number has an active e-Boks mailbox.

Can I change the recipient's delivery channel?

Yes.
If a case file is still pending, you can access the signer details page and change the delivery channel back to email.
You can also send the request through e-Boks using a different CPR number.

Does e-Boks send automatic reminders?

No. Automatic reminders are not currently supported.
If you need to resend a request, you must manually resend it from the signer page.

Can I customize the e-Boks message?

When using the new Case File Creation UI, the message currently uses the default template and cannot be customized from the UI.
The API supports template customization.
Additional message customization capabilities are planned for future product development.

Can I add my own branding?

Not in the current version.
The initial integration uses Penneo as the sender, including Penneo's standard message design and penneo.com domain.
Custom branding is not currently available for this integration.

Can I attach documents to an e-Boks message?

No.
The integration does not send documents as e-Boks attachments. Instead, recipients receive links to the signing page or Penneo archive.

Which countries are supported?

The current integration supports e-Boks Denmark only.
e-Boks Norway is not supported by this initial version.

Does this use Digital Post or mit.dk?

No.
The integration is a direct integration with e-Boks Denmark. It does not route messages through other standard Danish digital post channels such as Digital Post or mit.dk.

What do I need to activate e-Boks?

The e-Boks integration has additional terms and costs.
Before the integration can be enabled, you must:

• Accept the e-Boks end-user terms of use.
• Sign the required additional cost contract/appendix.

If you are a new customer

If e-Boks is included in your initial sales agreement, activation is handled automatically as part of your account setup.

If you are an existing customer

You can request activation from your account using the Contact Us / Request Activation option.
Your request will be reviewed by our Sales team, who will explain the applicable pricing and terms and provide the required contract appendix.
Once the agreement has been signed and the activation has been approved, the integration will be enabled on your account.

How is e-Boks charged?

e-Boks uses a per-notification billing model.
A typical signing transaction generates two notifications:

• One notification for the initial signing request
• One notification when the case file is completed

Pricing is based on volume packages, meaning the cost per notification decreases with higher purchased volumes. The current pricing described for the integration ranges from approximately DKK 2.60 to DKK 2.00 per notification.
